I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ferris State University. I earned my Master’s Degree from Mercer University in Early Childhood Education and my Educational Specialists Degree from Capella University, in K-12 Educational Leadership and Administration. I hold valid Michigan certifications for Elementary/Middle School Teaching and K-12 Leadership and Administration.


Gloria Lester

I graduated from Wayne State University with the following degrees; a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Master of Arts in Teaching (K-8,) and a Master of Education in School Counseling. I have 24 years of experience in education and counseling.   I hold several licenses and certifications; a Professional Education Certification (K-8), with an endorsement as a Guidance Counselor (K-12), Limited Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Professional Counselor, and Certified Relationship Specialist. I am a Certified Diplomate Psychotherapist, a Fellow Status Psychotherapist, and an Adjunct Professor in the Teacher Education Program at Wayne County Community College District.  I am a member of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling. Academic and Professional Honor Society International. I am a Guidance Counselor and Senior Advisor/Planner at Pathways Academy.  I have expertise in educational consulting.


Heather Johnson

MSW Social Worker (MI-APPP Grant)

Heather L. Johnson is a Master level social worker with a concentration in Macro Practicum.  Her background is community practice and working with at-risk youth in residential and community settings.  Ms. Johnson is at Pathways with a grant through the State of Michigan called Michigan Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program (MI-APPP).  Under this grant Ms. Johnson works as a case manager with pregnant and parenting teens, connecting them with resources that benefit their families and help them reach their goals.  It is the ultimate goal of MI-APPP to have families thrive and have successful outcomes.


Carrie Scott

I have been an educator for over ten years. I graduated in 2010 from Baker College with my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education Mathematics/Chemistry. I have substitute taught from 2005 to 2014. I also mentored at Brown City Schools for a year between the school years 2012/2013 and 2013/2014. This is my second year at Pathways Academy. I love my job and my students.
I am excited for another awesome year filled with joy, love, and happiness.

William Walker

My name is William Walker, and I am a social studies teacher at Pathways Charter Academy. I am a native Detroiter who was raised in the Jefferson-Chalmers area of the city near Pathways.  I obtained my high school diploma from Southeastern High School in 1995 and my Bachelor of Arts in English and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University in 2002 and 2008, respectively.  As a teacher, my mission is to improve students’ lives through teaching and mentorship.


Kareen Dillard-Biggs

Ms. Dillard-Biggs is a Detroit native, and is a product of the Detroit Public Schools.  She earned her bachelors of science in biology from Hampton University, and a master’s of arts in secondary education from the University of Phoenix San Diego.  Her first love is biology, and she is passionate about using science to understand and navigate through life. Ms. Dillard-Biggs is a veteran teacher has taught health, biology, chemistry and 7th grade science and now joins us as our science teacher.

I am the Mentor/Advocate at “Pathways Academy”. I recently moved back from Denver, Colorado, this past December, 2014, after eight years. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver, with a BS in History, and, a Secondary Education Licensure. I’ve always had a passion for learning, along with the conscious knowledge of the importance of education in our society. I believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity, and I’m happy “Pathways” provides this for our unique student body.
